I know trends when I see one, and boy do I see one right now. Lately Android phones have been more and more about goings social than anything else. First it started with application in the Android market. Everyone and their mother created applications that supported Web 2.0 services. Twitter applications grew and multiplied and joined the ranks of Myspace applications, Last.fm Applications (this was my first project for Android), and custom social services for android (such as BriteKite).
Then HTC revamped the Android UI with their own widgets and applications focussing on the social media interactive experience.

Not to be outdone, Motorola has been making advances into the Android market. Today they announced the Motorola Cliq. Though the phone itself is nothing jaw popping, the mainstay of this entry into the smartphone market lies in its support of social media out of the box.

Now everything you could possibly hope to know about your friends is on your phone’s home screen in the form of slick widgets. In addition your phone book will not only be synced with your Google address book like it is now, but it will be augmented by your contacts latest Facebook status update, Twitter tweets, moody Myspace musings.
